Creed

This subject provides the student an overview about the essentials of Islamic belief as per the two testifications of faith: 1) The belief in Allah, what is befitting to ascribe to Allah and what is not befitting and 2) The belief in Prophet Muhammad and his truthfulness in everything he conveyed from Allah regarding the Angels, Paradise, the Day of Judgment, the weighing of deeds, and other matters. This subject also discusses the importance of protecting one’s belief and how one does so. In the more advanced courses students will study the Creed of at-Tahawiyy, an essential book to master for Muslims young and old and a gem authored by a scholar renowned worldwide both in his time and nowadays.

This text is a famous treatise in Islamic belief authored by a famous scholar named Abu Ja`far at-Tahawiyy. The course covers the first quarter of his treatise and focuses on a more in-depth explanation of the Islamic belief detailing the belief in Allah; the belief in al-Qadar (destining), the belief in al-Qur’an and the Eternal Kalam (Speech) of Allah.

The second quarter of At-Tahawiyy’s text includes more details about Prophet Muhammad, what we must believe about him, that he is truthful in what he conveys. In this segment At-Tahawi also explores some details of some of what the Prophet informed us about the belief in the Angels, Paradise, the Day of Judgment, the intercession, destiny, al-Hawd (the basin), al-Lawh (The guarded tablet), and other matters.

The third quarter of At-Tahawiyy’s text includes discussion of the dangers of denying destiny, discussion about believing in the `Arsh and the Kursiyy, a clarification of a verse of the Qur’an about the `Arsh, additional details about Allah’s perfect attribute of Knowledge, the resurrection, and other matters.

The last quarter of At-Tahawi’s text discusses the reality of our actions, that everything occurs only in accordance to the Will of Allah, what it means to love the companions of Prophet Muhammad, confirming about the righteous caliphates after Prophet Muhammad, the major signs of the Day of Judgment, and encouragement and supplication from at-Tahawiyy to stick to the way of the Prophet and the majority of Muslims.

Fiqh

Allah revealed in Suratul-Baqarah { إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ التَّوَّابِينَ وَيُحِبُّ الْمُتَطَهِّرِينَ } meaning: {Indeed Allah accepts those who repent and those who perform purification}. In seeking the means of obedience to Allah and following this blessed verse, this subject focuses on the various acts of worship and how to perform them properly by learning the integrals and conditions for the types of worship including purification, prayer, fasting, Hajj, Zakah, and others.

Islamic Manners

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said “إن المؤمن ليبلغ بحسن خلقه درجة الصائم القائم” Meaning that adhering to good manners can earn the believer reward equaling that of praying optional prayers and night and fasting a lot of optional fast. Learning the good manners taught by the Prophet also entails learning about ill behavior so as to be aware of it and more equipped to avoid it. Al-Bukhariyy related from the companion Hudayfah ibnul Yaman: “كان الناس يسألون رسول الله عن الخير وكنت أسأله عن الشر مخافة أن يدركنى” In which he said that others used to ask the Prophet about good things to do, while I used to ask him about bad things so that I may avoid them.

Qur’aan

The Prophet Muhammad said: “خيركم من تعلم القرءان وعلمه” This hadith means: “Among the best of you are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it” In compliance with this blessed hadith and in honoring the book of Allah, we strive to offer the best instruction focused on not only memorizing Qur’an but facilitating for students to learn to read the Qur’an by doing targeted exercises to help pronounce letters or words that may seem difficult.

This course will focus on learning to read Arabic with proper pronunciation of letters. The course will also include introduction to simple rules of recitation. The student will practice learned concepts with الفاتحة and other short surahs. This course is for ages 7-8.

This course will focus on proper pronunciation of letters and introductory rules of recitation. The student will practice learned concepts with الفاتحة and other surahs selected from juzu’ ‘Amma, as well as other frequently recited verses (e.g., ayatul-kursiyy, the last verses of suratul-Baqarah). This course is for adults possessing the ability to read in Arabic.

Tafseer (Interpretation of Qur’aan)

Allah revealed { إن هذا القرءان يهدى للتى هى أقوم } Is the meaning “Indeed, القرءان guides to what is best”?. Proper understanding of the meanings of the verses of al-Qur’aan is essential for one to act in accordance to the teachings of al-Qur’aan and fully benefit from its guidance. We endeavor in delivering authentic interpretations relying on classical texts of famous interpreters of القرءان.

History

This subject will cover a wide variety of topics related to critical aspects of Islamic history. Such topics are important to understand to help foster a sense of Muslim identity in the youth and reinforce that among our adult learners. These courses and the lessons entailed therein provide powerful motivation for both our teachers and students to strive for success in this life and the Hereafter.

This subject pertains to learning about the various sayings, actions, and manners of our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ Indeed, learning about the hadith is an essential component for us to more closely follow the example of our Prophet and develop a present heart. That is, for us to be conscious of how to conduct ourselves in our daily lives in the best way and to maintain the sincere intention for the sake of Allah alone in our good deeds.

This course will review the famous 40 Hadith of an-Nawawi. An-Nawawi’s book is well renowned and among the most widely known compilations of hadith. This section will cover hadiths 1-10.
